Childhood is providing a high-level of quality care in the health and safety of
young children. In compliance with regulations and accreditation standards, the
following is required of all Early childhood students by the second week of
classes in the Fall Semester of each year enrolled in an Early Childhood
course; or by the second week of classes in the Spring Semester should the
student not been enrolled in an Early Childhood course in the Fall Semester:

Should the window for viable vaccinations expire while enrolled in Early Childhood courses (including Student Teaching), candidates are required to update their vaccinations and their file within the School of Education. Vaccination information must be verified by a healthcare institution/provider. UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONSIn compliance with regulations and accreditation standards, the following is required of all Early childhood students during the EDUC 2430 Foundations of Early Childhood semester. The course instructor will provide an opportunity for Universal Precautions Training during the course of the semester. If for any reason a candidate is not able to complete the training, it is the candidate’s responsibility to acquire Universal Precautions Training and provide verification documents.

BACKGROUND REPORT on file with the AU School of Education. Please email Jama Marlow for instructions. In addition, the State on Indiana requires an ADDITIONAL FINGERPRINTING NATIONAL BACKGROUND CHECK. An appointment must be made through the MORPH/L-1 website. A fee (approx. $40) is required and a copy of the fingerprint receipt must be submitted to the SoE ECE. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTSPROFESSIONAL GROWTH POINTS (PGPs) As a commitment to lifelong learning through professional development, candidates must acquire 10 Professional Growth Points (PGPs) during each academic year. AU School of Education Early Childhood Program will provide support to candidates in acquiring PGPs by alerting candidates to relevant opportunities, by requiring students to participate in specific professional development opportunities, and through partnership with other professional organizations providing professional development opportunities. Professional Growth Points must be verified through documentation from granting agency unless otherwise approved in advance by Early Childhood faculty. CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE
Throughout the academic year, Early Childhood candidates are required to participate in designated professional conferences. Participation may range from attending, volunteering, or presenting depending on the level and requirements of specific ECE courses. Candidates should be aware that attendance to professional conferences may be required on the weekend. Any required attendance on a weekday will be approved as an excused academic absence from other courses. The course instructor will provide an opportunity and/or instructions for completion during the course of the semester.
