Admission to Program

EDUC 2430: Foundations of Early Childhood and EDUC 2440: Issues in Early Childhood Education are pre-professional courses which may be taken without admission into the Early Childhood Education Program.  In order to continue on with the remaining three courses and student teaching, candidates must be admitted into the AU School of Education Teacher Preparation Program (TPP).

Candidates seeking Admission to the ECE Program must meet the following criteria:

  • GPA Minimum 2.75
  • Pass CASA Exam
  • Pass Teacher Preparation Program (TPP) Interview
  • Benchmark standing of “Good Standing with Minor Concern” or better

Requirements for Student Teaching

Early Childhood Education candidates are required to meet ALL AU SOE Elementary Education Student Teaching Requirements.

NEW INFORMATION REGARDING CORE TESTING REQUIREMENTS: EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 2015

Indiana's REPA III Licensing regulations require Elementary Education Majors and an Early Childhood Minors seeking a Dual License (that is the importance piece) to pass the Elementary Generalist CORE Exam (Content) and the P-3 Pedagogy Exam.

It is a general suggestion that the P-3 Pedagogy Exam be taken during the EDUC 3420 Spring Semester.
